Beginning with a historic overview of garden design, this course explores diverse perspectives on landscape interventions. Art, statuary, wildlife, water and native ecosystems are all viewed as conceptual aids in the design process.

The elements of landscape design are evaluated for their aesthetic and functional effectiveness in softscaping and hardscaping. Design terminology and basic drafting skills are discussed in following the typical steps of a design process. Case studies and project work offer opportunities to explore site analysis, construction details, grading and drainage, and site remediation.

This Course Prepares You to:

  • Understand the fundamental principles of landscape design

  • Analyze sites to propose land improvements

  • Enhance the creative process using design elements
