After several years of informal permaculture study and food gardening practice, she completed her Permaculture Design Certificate, Permaculture Teacher Training and a fall internship at the Bullock Brothers' Permaculture Homestead on Orcas Island in 2008. In 2009 she completed the Organic Master Gardener course, which she has been teaching ever since. Tamara was actively involved in a number of Victoria groups working on food security and other environmental issues, including SOUL, the Spring Ridge Commons Steering Committee, the Campus Urban Agriculture Collaborative, and helping to found Transition Victoria. She spent a year on Cortes Island growing a large organic food garden with her partner, and after a brief time back in Victoria Tamara now resides in the beautiful mountain town of Kaslo in the West Kootenay region of BC. She and her partner are working on developing a 1-acre permaculture demonstration garden on their property. Tamara has a wide variety of life and career experience, including an MA in music and certification in Acupressure and Medical Qigong therapy, as well as many years of teaching experience in a variety of contexts.
