B.A., Brock University (Sociology)
Permaculture Design Certificate, under the instruction of Jesse Lemieux (Pacific Permaculture)
Prairie Horticulture Certificate, Olds College (pending: March 2011)
Following years in recovery from injuries and ongoing health issues, my interest in social and environmental issues, food production and security issues, and their relationship to human health led me to prioritize learning about food quality and security, and the development of sustainable food systems.
In 2009, I interned with Inspired Market Gardens as a participant in the Alberta Sustainable Agriculture Apprenticeship Program (ASAAP, and also completed my Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC). In the fall, I began taking courses through Olds College in the Prairie Horticulture Certificate program.
In 2010, my wife Beth and I took the two-week "Organic Cuba " tour with Ron Berezan, "The Urban Farmer", where we visited a variety of "agro-ecological" sites and learned more about sustainable agricultural and permaculture practices. Later that year I gained more valuable experience co-presenting several workshops with Ron Berezan, and working in vegetable and small fruit production with Sundog Organic Farm.
I will complete the Prairie Horticulture Certificate in March, 2011, and look forward to continuing with my small business, Hunter Gatherers Horticulture, offering horticultural services, permaculture design and education.
